Zambia Industrial Commercial Bank (ZICB) has donated an electric wheelchair to the Managing Director of the Widows, Orphans, Needy and Sick (WONS) orphanage, Eunice Bwalya, who is differently abled.
The ZICB team that was led by Board Director, Danny Luswili, and Chief Financial Officer, Louis Kabula, handed over the wheelchair to Mrs. Bwalya on behalf of the Bank, while other staff members joined to interact with the children at the orphanage.
This initiative by the Bank will enable Mrs. Bwalya to move around more easily, and comfortably as she continues the great work she is doing at the orphanage.
During the handover ceremony, Mrs. Bwalya expressed her gratitude to ZICB for the generous gesture, continued support, and partnership, saying that it was a miracle for her.

“I honestly did not expect this wonderful gesture from the Bank because this is the first time an organization or individual is looking out for my well-being apart from those of the children living here. I am greatly humbled,” she said.
Meanwhile, ZICB Board Director Danny Luswili said that the Bank was honoured to be associated with WONS orphanage and Mrs. Bwalya, who he described as a hero and an inspiration to many.
“Please accept this small gesture as a token of appreciation from ZICB, for the wonderful work that you are doing to transform the lives of widows, orphans, the needy, and the sick,” he said.
He added that ZICB was committed to making a positive impact in the lives of the people and communities that the Bank serves.
The donation was part of ZICB’s corporate social responsibility program, which aims to support vulnerable and disadvantaged communities in Zambia.
WONS Orphanage is a non-governmental organization that provides care and support to orphaned and destitute children in Zambia.
The donation, which included assorted foodstuffs and groceries, was made on 7th September 2023 at the orphanage premises in Lusaka’s Chunga Township and was worth over ZMW 75,000.
The Bank has been working with WONS orphanage since 2018 when it donated building materials towards the construction of a girls’ dormitory, which was completed in the first half of 2023 with financial support of over K200,000 from ZICB.
ZICB is a leading commercial bank in Zambia that offers personal, SME, and business banking solutions, while pioneering digital banking solutions to bridge the financial inclusion gap to foster local wealth creation in Zambia.
